Building English Vocabulary That Lasts

A notebook and pen ready for language practice

Long word lists are easy to write and easy to forget. Words last when you meet them in context and use them yourself.

When you find a new word, write the whole sentence it appeared in, not only the translation. Then write one sentence of your own using it. Using a word is the strongest way to remember it.

Review little and often. A few minutes each day, returning to words from earlier in the week, works better than one long session.

Read and listen to things you enjoy. You will meet useful words repeatedly, which is how they become natural.
